The Daily Detox Powder We Start (Almost) Every Patient On
A Daily Spoonful of Whole Foods to Nourish and Detoxify Your Body
Why This Powder Exists
Our process is Nourish, Detoxify, and Purify. We always start with Nourish, but what nourishes can also often detoxify. I created Dr. Stillman’s Detox Powder to restore healthy levels of much-needed nutrients, and to help the body detoxify itself.
We start nearly all of our patients on this formula. It is one of the highest-leverage, lowest-risk tools in our practice.
Ingredients
Combine the following ingredients in equal quantities in a large mason jar. Feel free to omit any ingredients that don’t agree with you or to which you are allergic.
Kelp powder
Alfalfa powder
Chlorella powder
Spirulina powder
Dandelion root powder
Milk thistle seed powder
Beet root powder
Ginger powder
I source herbs and botanicals from Mountain Rose Herbs. This is an affiliate link and we do receive a small commission on purchases made through it. Your purchases help fund our educational efforts.
Note: If you are sensitive to oxalates, omit the beet root. If you are extremely sensitive, you may also need to omit milk thistle and dandelion root.
How to Start
Starting dose: 1 teaspoon daily.
Target dose: Work up gradually to 1-2 tablespoons daily as tolerated, or as advised by your practitioner.
Do not start at the full dose. Start with one teaspoon and add a teaspoon daily up to three teaspoons (one tablespoon).
How to Take It
I recommend you mix the Detox Powder into a smoothie or shake to improve the flavor. Here’s my base recipe:
1 tablespoon Detox Powder (or your current dose)
Raw vegetables (½ to 1 cup of greens or root vegetables like carrots, if tolerated)
1 tablespoon molasses
Raw or frozen fruit (usually 1-2 ounces)
Soaked chia or flax seeds (1-2 tablespoons after soaking)
Optional: cocoa powder or other herbs and spices for flavor
What to Watch For
Signs you are responding well:
More stable energy through the day
Fewer afternoon crashes
Improved digestion
Gradual reduction in symptoms over weeks
Signs to slow down:
Increased fatigue, headache, or brain fog in the first few days (this can be a temporary detox response - reduce your dose and increase slowly)
Digestive upset or loose stools (reduce dose)
Worsening of oxalate symptoms (omit beet root and reassess)
If symptoms persist or worsen beyond the first week, contact a qualified practitioner before continuing.
A Patient’s Story
Margaret came to us struggling with severe afternoon fatigue and what she described as energy “crashes.” She would be fine one minute and exhausted the next. She noticed that carbohydrates would improve her energy almost immediately. She was on the “blood sugar roller coaster.”
She started the Detox Powder and found that it resolved her crashes entirely. She has been on it ever since.
Her story is one of many. It is a simple intervention with a wide reach.
