My top two secrets to optimal health
Two key choices you must make to achieve and maintain good health
One of our patients recently dropped ten pounds and cut her risk of heart attack in half within six months.
Then her progress stalled and she gained back all the weight she lost. Her heart attack risk remained stable, so at least she maintained some of her progress.
But I always feels disappointed when someone “goes backwards” or loses some of the progress they have made.
Is it a coincidence that she saw great progress for six months, and then regression and stagnation?
In my experience, there are two key choices that lead to stalling out or even going backwards.
I see it all too often, although I try to warn patients against it.
There are two common reasons that we see this in my practice.
They are:
Failure to engage
Failure to execute
What do these things mean?
Why did she have such rapid progress over the first six months, and then stall out, and even go backwards, over the following six months?
Because she was consistent in engaging with us.
Why did I design our highest level of membership with quarterly visits?
Because this is how often you have to iterate a supplement protocol for success!
If you don't iterate your supplement protocol by checking your progress with labs, you are asking to lose your progress. Many people yo-yo diet forever, because they never manage to climb out of the hole they have created for themselves - they just make it “half-way” over and over again.
Another patient recently remarked to me, "when I came back from a recent trip, my supplements just didn't agree with me."
Why? Her body had changed.
You are never the same patient twice. You are a dynamic, ever-changing, complex system.
This is why we test! So we can tailor our supplement protocols to our patients.
Millions upon millions of people are throwing away money on supplements they don't need, because they have no idea what their actual nutritional status is.
Are you one of them?
Now, back to the case I started this post with. In the first six months of treatment, coincident to her ten-pound weight loss, she also cut her heart disease risk in half. This was based on her high-sensitivity CRP, which I explained in my last post.
After twelve months, this number had stalled, and she is still in the "high risk" category.
Why do I think she stalled out?
There are two things that I think could have helped her maintain her weight loss and continue her progress in normalizing her high-sensitivity CRP.
Hair testing no less than four months apart
Personalized supplementation based on the hair test
One-on-one consults for tailored nutritional and hormone-optimization protocols
Group coaching to make sure her lifestyle and exercise are optimized
Group coaching for accountability and encouragement
I designed our highest level of membership at my medical practice to afford people quarterly appointments to review personalized lab testing, so we can personalize their supplements and maximize their success.
