For the First Time in Decades, Her Neck Didn’t Wake Her Up at Night
What Changed When One Mom Treated Food, Minerals, and Mold as One Story
A Moment with Dr. Stillman
“For the first time in decades, my neck didn’t wake me up in the middle of the night.”
That’s exactly how she described one of her first big wins.
She’s a mom, managing meals for three people with different preferences and needs, while dealing with mold in the house and years of her own pain. For as long as she can remember, she’s lived with a “bad neck,” cracked and bleeding heels, peeling fingertips, and a brain that felt slower than it should.
Here’s what changed once we treated food, minerals, and her environment as parts of the same story.
Where She Started
When she came to see us, her life looked something like this:
She woke in the middle of the night with severe neck pain and numbness in her arm and hand.
The only way she could fall back asleep was to pull the pillow out from under her head and lie flat on her back.
She was struggling with severe brain fog.
Her fingertips were dry, peeling, and sore. The skin between her fingerprints would crack and hurt “just washing dishes.”
Her right heel, “for as far back as I can remember,” had cracked, bled, and been painful.
Her nails were “all weird,” with missing half-moons, a classic sign of mineral imbalance.
At night, the ringing in her ears was so loud it was hard to fall back asleep.
When she was around smoke or poor air, she would start wheezing and coughing and say she “couldn’t breathe.”
Their shower had significant mold and the family was living between home and elsewhere while it was being remediated.
She had simply come to believe this was “just how things are.”
What We Did Differently
We did what we always do. We started with personalized supplements, bioidentical hormones, and our vitamin C protocol.
Here’s what we did exactly:
She cut out food she reacted to on her allergy testing. In her words, “We all noticed when we just started eating based on the MRT, a big shift.”
She added a nightly mineral “mocktail.” She didn’t love the taste at first, but within a couple of days she saw changes.
She started Valence supplements (including digestive enzymes, vitamin D, MSM and others) and adjusted doses when the first 4–5 days caused gut discomfort. Doubling digestive enzymes with meals settled that quickly.
A daily detox powder in her smoothie, short sauna sessions, 10‑minute walks outside, and intentional work on mindset and positive thinking.
They continued remediation in the home and limited time in the most affected areas.
This was all a coordinated plan to lower inflammation, refill minerals, and give her body margin to repair.
Where She Is Now
When I asked, “If 0 is where we started and 10 is where you’d like to be, where are you now?” she said, “Probably a 4.”
It’s only been six weeks. I love stories like this one. Several of the longest‑standing, most painful problems have already improved in ways she’d never seen before.
Today:
Her neck pain is, in her words, “for the most part, 100%” gone. She no longer wakes with arm numbness and no longer feels on the brink of needing neck surgery.
She can sleep without elaborate pillow maneuvers. She still sometimes wakes in the night, but “not with neck pain. So that’s a good thing.”
“My brain is definitely working better,” she says, describing clearer thinking and more capacity to manage family life.
Her right heel is “kind of softening and the big giant crack is going away” after a years of cracking and bleeding.
Her fingertips are no longer dry, peeling, and splitting. The old cracks that hurt with basic tasks like washing dishes are healing. “They’re not peeling, though,” she told me, which for her is a big change.
Her nails are starting to grow out with a healthier appearance as her mineral status improves.
The family has stabilized on their supplements, and the nightly mocktail has become a simple ritual everyone participates in.
Some symptoms, like tinnitus, are in process, but she’s made significant progress in under a few months.
Things to Think About
Her story is what it looks like when many “small” burdens add up:
Years of mold exposure.
Foods that inflame instead of nourish.
Minerals slowly draining from a body that has been “leaving it all on the field” for years.
On their own, each might seem minor. Together, they produced:
Chronic neck pain and arm numbness.
Cracked heels and splitting fingertips.
Brain fog, wheezing, and unrefreshing sleep.
